The Predictive Index’s Annual Employee Engagement Report 2019 presents the current state of employee engagement in America and reveals how organizations can develop employees to their maximum potential and retain high performers. Data from this report was collected from more than 3,000 employees in over 20 industries.

Some main findings from this report include:

  • The US has a composite engagement rate of 71%. Overall, America employees are happier with their jobs and people who they are working with than with their managers and their companies.
  • Outstanding organization future, trust in senior leadership and being motivated by the organizational future vision were rated as the most important factors that influence employee engagement. On the other hand, being motivated by the organizational future vision, organization’s focus on employee development and trust in senior leadership were also ranked as the top drivers for employee turnover.
  • Employees who are working at smaller organizations seemed to be more satisfied with their jobs compared to employees who are working at big organizations. Similarly, smaller companies reported a slightly higher overall engagement rate compared to large companies.
  • Younger companies tended to have a higher employee engagement rate compared to older companies with the highest rate of 77% at 5-year-old or younger organizations and lower rate of 68% at organizations that have been operating for more than 30 years.
  • Organizations that used behavioural assessment during their recruitment process tended to have a higher employee engagement rate compared to organizations that didn’t utilize assessment. Employees who had access to their assessment results were more likely to engage at work and had a higher satisfaction level for their jobs, colleagues, managers or their companies. Overall engagement rate was also higher in organizations that utilized assessments for their team communication and development.
  • Similarly, companies that assessed candidates on their cognitive abilities were more likely to report a higher employee engagement rate compared to companies that didn’t use cognitive assessments.
