Citibank, Malaysia: New Learning & Development Center to Increase Talent Productivity

Talent development takes center stage

Kuala Lumpur – Citibank Berhad recently launched its newly enhanced Learning & Development Center at Menara Citibank to drive and manage talent excellence across all its businesses, in line with the highly competitive financial landscape in Malaysia.

Renowned throughout Asia as having one of the best classroom training facilities, the Center measures more than 11,200 square feet and hosts a slew of cutting-edge facilities, including an amphitheater, a computer laboratory and five classrooms, of which three can be expanded to accommodate more than 150 employees at any one time.

Sanjeev Nanavati, Citibank Berhad Chief Executive Officer, said, “Leading edge training is one of the key components of our talent development strategy under the Citibank Difference program. Our people are crucial to our success, and as such, we want to attract, employ and retain the best people in the industry, making Citibank the place people want to work.

“This initiative emphasizes our commitment to our employees’ development and the investment in learning that has always been the cornerstone of working at Citi. Designed by Citibankers for Citibankers, the center will help employees enhance their skills and competencies, and where possible, inculcate new cultural paradigms at the workplace. It acts as a platform for employees to constantly regroup, learn, innovate and adapt to the constantly changing environment.”

Talent development is at the very heart of the financial sector, as well as at Citi, which has long since been known as the “university of banking.” Over the last 50 years, Citi has continued to maintain its leadership as a key innovator in the Malaysian financial and banking landscape, introducing cutting-edge products and services to consumers. This underscores the robust talent development framework at the bank, which is driven through three core areas: 70 percent on-the-job learning, 20 percent learning through relationship or exposure to others and 10 percent through formal classroom training.

“Our employees not only learn on the job, but are given ample opportunities to take up various training courses to increase their productivity, creativity and broaden their minds,” Sanjeev added. “They are constantly challenged to think of financial solutions that are consumer driven. We strongly believe in the need to build a strong talent pipeline and a deep pool of resources, as it is imperative for the future of a dynamic financial industry.”

To date, Citi conducts more than 120 training programs per annum. Training programs focus on leadership and financial product specifics, and are tailored to encourage innovation among employees. In addition, the center also hosts various Citi product teams during their respective training sessions as well as client-related events.
