The KPMG’s “Keeping Us Up At Night – The Big Issues Facing Business Leaders in 2022″ report identified and analysed the uncertainties as well as the opportunities for Australian organisations in the next few years. Data from this report was gathered from more than 400 Australian business leaders.
Some key findings from this report include:
- Talent acquisition, retention and upskilling; Cyber vulnerability; remote working; digital transformation and changes in regulatory processes were voted as the most challenging issues in 2022 by most business leaders.
- According to them, in the next 3-5 years, digital transformation and talent acquisition will still be the priorities for organisations to deal with while cyber vulnerability is more likely to be manageable by then.
- Some new issues organisations identified as challenging in the next 5 years include growth innovation and implementation of new technologies while they were not as concerning in 2022.
- The economic impacts of climate change and energy transition; being ready for the future skills gap; level shifting of global cooperation; digital infrastructure management and maintaining the financial balance across different generations are the most challenging social issues organisations are facing.
- Parenting responsibilities equality; maintaining near full employment in the long term and the social impact of automation and a different physical world are not considered top social issues to organisations in Australia.
- According to the survey results, KPMG identified Talent, Digital Disruption and ESG as the key issues Australian business leaders need to focus on in 2022 and the next 3-5 years
- KPMG suggested some areas organisations can work on to address the talent issues, which include: providing a clear message about organisational purpose to employees; implementing engaging organisational principles and parameters; encouraging leaders to communicate with employees to emphasize the “agency” concept; encouraging employees to go back to the office for good reasons and improving the use of space at work.
